Overview

Oracle ACE is a recognition community for professionals who consistently contribute through blogging, speaking, answering questions, building tools and mentoring.

  • Impact over titles — contributions and community leadership matter more than job title.
  • Consistency — small weekly contributions beat one big post every six months.
  • Proof — keep URLs for blogs, sessions, recordings, GitHub and event pages.

PkOUG's role: helping you build a contribution portfolio, and providing speaking opportunities through SIGs and meetups.

Levels

  • ACE Apprentice — structured entry path for emerging advocates.
  • ACE Associate — recognised contributor with stronger visibility.
  • ACE Pro — advanced technical leader with consistent community impact.
  • ACE Director — top-tier advocate; high impact and leadership.

Practical tip: choose one primary domain — Oracle Database or OCI, for example — and build depth. Add a second domain later.

How to join

Oracle provides several paths. If you are new to public contribution, the Apprentice path is the best place to start; higher levels are considered on the basis of visible contribution.

  • Build your evidence links — blog posts, session recordings, slides, GitHub, forum answers, event pages.
  • Polish your public profile — LinkedIn headline, About section and keywords matching your domain.
  • Document your portfolio — one page listing every contribution with dates and URLs.

Getting started

A simple four-month plan

A recommended starting rhythm. Nothing here requires permission — you can begin this week.

  1. Month 1

    Clean up your LinkedIn profile, pick one domain, and create a portfolio page — even a simple document with links.

  2. Month 2

    Publish one technical blog post — a how-to, a troubleshooting write-up or a set of best practices — and share it.

  3. Month 3

    Prepare 10–15 slides and deliver a 15–20 minute session at a PkOUG meetup, a SIG or online.

  4. Month 4

    Answer 10 or more community questions in forums or groups, and keep the links and screenshots.

Quick answers

Do I need to be an Oracle employee?
No. The ACE Program recognises community contribution, not employer. Practitioners, consultants, students and freelancers are all eligible.
How long does it take?
It depends entirely on visible contribution. Consistent, smaller contributions over several months are far more effective than one large piece of work.
Does PkOUG decide who becomes an ACE?
No. Selection is entirely Oracle's. PkOUG helps you build and evidence a contribution portfolio, and provides speaking opportunities through SIGs and meetups.
What if I have no public contributions yet?
Start with the Apprentice path. Publish one write-up, give one short talk, and answer questions in your domain — that is enough to begin.
